Hi Stuart,
Thanks for your query.
On average, GRVs have dropped by 15% for residential properties and 10% for non-residential properties. To maintain the same level of rates income the rates in the dollar have been increased to achieve the same rates as last financial year, ie a 0% rate rise.
And what happened to this statement put out? about no rate increases?

At a Special Council Meeting on 7 April, Council endorsed a 0% rate rise for the 2020-2021 budget, meaning there will be no increase in rates or fees and charge for the financial year ahead.

Council has resolved that rates and fees and charges will not be increased next year, a zero % change. However, with the revaluation of Gross Rental Values, GRVs have dropped by 15% for residential properties and 10% for non-residential properties. In order to raise the same level of rates revenue to continue to provide the services and facilities of the Town, the rates in the dollar have been increased so that on average, all ratepayers will pay the same in rates next year as they did this year.
Outline the details better for us novices to make a comment or decision. As long as it costs LESS.
