Burswood Station East Planning Framework

Consultation has concluded

The Town has prepared a new draft planning framework for the Burswood Station East Precinct (“BSE Precinct”). The new planning framework will be the first step in facilitating redevelopment of the area to a vibrant, urban neighbourhood.

An important part of positive transformation is creating safe, pleasant public places that suit the needs of the local community. The draft planning framework includes mechanisms to assist in the identification, design and funding of these public places. The draft planning framework also places an emphasis on the impact buildings have on the quality of streets and public places they interact with.

The draft planning framework comprises two parts - Scheme Amendment 82 and Draft Local Planning Policy 40. Scheme Amendment 82 will amend the "precinct plan" contained in the Town's Local Planning Scheme to include new development objectives and basic development standards. The Council resolved to support final approval of Scheme Amendment 82 at its meeting of 15 December 2020. The Scheme Amendment is currently being assessed by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, and is anticipated to be finalised in the second half of 2021.

Draft Local Planning Policy 40 provides additional guidance on how development can meet the new objectives and basic development standards. The Council resolved to adopt Draft Local Planning Policy at its meeting of 16 March 2021, subject to the gazettal of Scheme Amendment 40. The endorsed version of Draft Local Planning Policy 40 can be viewed here.
