Higgins Park - Future Traffic Flow
If the Higgins Park project proceeds with the inclusion of the closure of the Playfield Street between Ramsden Ave & Etwell Street, I can only envisage more traffic problems.
At times of school drop offs and pick ups, the traffic is congested and busy. The traffic along Pinedale Street is especially so, and usually reduced to one lane of traffic at these times. I can only imagine it getting worse with the closure of the section of Playfield Street. Also to be noted, many of the cars are not parking correctly, and park close to the intersection of Pinedale/Etwell Street, near the median strip, again restricting traffic flow.
What can be incorporated to ensure safety of traffic flow at these peak times?
I hope these concerns are considered in the decision making.

Thank you for your statements and question, Malian. Each option in the draft plan mentions traffic calming and improved pedestrian crossings on Playfield Street with option three mentioning full closure between Etwell and Ramsden - depending on which option is adopted would then determine how we would approach traffic management. If this option is selected, a traffic impact report will be undertaken and mitigation methods put in place. We would appreciate the above thoughts on the project by completing the submission form here. Thank you again for your feedback.
Are there any discussions about having any sort of pump track or similar for teenagers in the Higgins Park redevelopment plans. There seems to be playgrounds for young kids, but apart from being in a football tennis or hockey club, there is not much for older teens. Regards, Ross Bannister

Hi Banny. A pump track is not included within the scope of the project for Higgins Park.
Following Council's resolution and subject to approval of funding in the 2020/21 Annual Budget the Town will be undertaking detailed design for the McCalllum Park Active Area project. This includes an amazing pump track. You can check it out here.
