Fencing Local Law 2020

Consultation has concluded

Under section 3.16(2 & 2a) of the Local Government Act 1995, Local Governments are required to review their Local Laws every eight years.

In February 2020 the Town sought public comment on the review of the Local Laws Relating to Fencing 2000. As a result of this review, the Council has proposed to replace this law with the Fencing Local Law 2020.

The Town of Victoria Park is proposing to make the Fencing Local Law 2020 to replace the Local Laws Relating to Fencing 2000. This local law is made under the Local Government Act 1995 and Dividing Fences Act 1961 and sets out a number of matters relating to the dividing, boundary and front fences.

The purpose of this local law is to prescribe what constitutes a sufficient fence and the standard for the construction of fences throughout the district.

The effect of this local law is to establish the minimum requirements for fencing within the district.

What is happening now?

A report item is being presented at the February Ordinary Council Meeting with a recommendation to make the Fencing Local Law 2020, in accordance with section 3.12 of the Local Government Act 1995. Agenda item is available on the Town's website.
