Transport Strategy & Parking Management Plan

Consultation has concluded

The Town of Victoria Park is calling for feedback on a new 10-year strategy that strives to improve the Town's transport network.

Transport Strategy

The draft Transport Strategy aims to create more streets for people, provide key connections to vibrant local centres and support the Town as a liveable inner-city community.

Key proposals in the draft Transport Strategy include:

  • A strong streetscape improvement program, focusing on priority areas such as Archer and Mint Street, Burswood Road and Albany Highway.
  • A range of upgrades to the Town’s bicycle network, including completion of the Principal Shared Path along the Armadale railway and the addition of protected bike lanes on Berwick Street.
  • A Skinny Streets Program to encourage lower vehicle speeds and enhance pedestrian amenity by narrowing certain local streets.
  • Key improvements to pedestrian infrastructure and amenity, including the development and implementation of a Town-wide Wayfinding Strategy.
  • A targeted advocacy program to leverage opportunities and partner with State Government authorities.

Parking Management Plan

A draft Parking Management Plan has also been created to complement the Transport Strategy and provide clear guidance to tackle complex parking issues.

Central to the Parking Management Plan is a Parking Intervention Matrix, which will be used as a tool to guide parking management decisions.

The draft Transport Strategy and Parking Management Plan were developed over the past 12 months in close consultation the community, key user groups and government agencies.

Consultation findings indicate that the community would like to see improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to support mode shift away from private vehicles.

Development of the draft Transport Strategy and Parking Management Plan also involved a unique visioning exercise, where eight distinct user mindsets representing the diverse Victoria Park community were used to highlight gaps in the existing transport network.

The draft documents are available to view in the document library.
