Why are we developing a public health plan?
The new Public Health Act 2016 requires all local governments to develop a local Public Health Plan. This engagement is being conducted to help inform the Town’s Public Health Plan.
The information received will inform the Town’s future planning and assist with delivering programs and services that address health and wellbeing issues in the local government area.
What's happening now?
The main public participation of our plan has been completed. Please review the Draft Healthy Vic Park Plan.

SuperMacxover 7 years agoNoise impacts
Noise has a significant impact on the quality of life in any community. the Town is being impacted more and more by increased noise sources and the noise levels are rising creating impacts. A noise impact study would benefit the Town now and the future to determine where the noise levels need to be better managed and whether the current 24 hour levels for noise sensitive premises are meeting the Environmental Protection Act and Noise regulations, the various Noise controls including the Australian Standards for amenity.
0SuperMacxover 7 years agoBetter Sustainable Waste Management Services
The waste services from all operational teams in Council and the greater community of the Town of Victoria need to have a committed and targetted approach to reduction of waste to landfill to meet the State Waste Policy requirements of Zero Waste to Landfill. This can save the Town, Ratepayers and Community a significant amount of waste levy contributions to State Government and Environment Levy funds which could be redirected to quality waste and social services for a much improved Public Health outcome. The Town's total operational contribution to Greenhouse gases and Climate Change impacts could be significantly reduced with a better committed and measured focus on Sustainable outcomes required under the Local Government Act, Town Planning and Development Act, Public Health Act, Environmental Protection Act and the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act.
0Whitneyover 7 years agoMore Community Vegetable garden space
Community gardens could be increased and we could run events at the gardens like teaching kids about how the gardens work and getting them involved in planting to teach them where healthy food comes from. We could also do community cooking competitions using the produce.
0SuperMacxover 7 years agoPublic Health and Safety
Community Public health and safety of pathways including cycleways, footpaths and general access to Buildings requires more work to remove conflict with cars buses i.e., Albany Highway and along train lines. This should include the ped paths, rail crossings and bridges to access public transport like stations, bus stops and transfer points at schools, colleges, universities and entertainment precincts. Street and public place Lighting in the Town is below standard for acceptable community safety and environmental access especially after sunset.

0Alexsandraover 7 years agoCreate a multipurpose skate park / BMX dirt jumps or pump track down by the River Foreshore.
The existing skate facilities are out of date and the Town of Victoria Park has the opportunity to create a world class attraction to bring in international events for BMX, Scooters and Skaters. Fremantle's facilities focussed on Skate and where not designed with inclusiveness in mind - and other facilities around Perth have almost gotten there but been just off the mark. Busselton has a great facility and a location but suffers from being outside of Perth. The area where the current skate park facilities are located could removed to house a new skate park (potentially an area that had a Resi Ramp under cover which would be a first for a public park in WA), a large bowl, a good street section, a flat section and even possibly a BMX dirt or pump track. The site could be used to host State, National and International events. A Parkour course, nature playground and work out area could be located adjacent to further enhance the area. It could even potentially be circled by a running and/or cycling track.
1Maxineover 7 years agoAn entry statement artwork and/or piazza area for musicians
Victoria Park is wonderful but the main entry to our fab community is car years, car yards, car yards. We need a large entry statement that epitomises who we are. Fremantle has the container ship arch but we have nothing. I feel this type of thing creates a sense of place. In addition I would love to see a small piazza (not another park) but a space for eating, talking, reading or musicians to play their instruments.
0ianbrearsover 7 years agoIncreased Tree Cover
Vic Park is well down the list in terms of tree cover when compared to other suburbs. Our Public areas and street verges have many gaps where trees have either dies, or been removed or fallen in a storm or were simply never planted in the first place. Trees and the shade they produce encourage people out of their houses on hot days, encourage interaction with neighbours, clean the air, encourage and retain local wildlife which all aids in maintaining mental health.
5Calumjover 7 years agoSpace use grants.
Grants for business/community plans that are based around the revamping and use of outdoor public spaces for such things as food gardens, semi-permanent coffeeshops/bars. Plans should be based around engaging people in the community with a focus on being outdoors and bring more vibrance to unused spaces.
