Background

Since 1995 it has been a requirement under the Disability Services Act (1994) that all public authorities prepare and implement a plan to improve access to their services for people with disability. The Act requires that public authorities lodge a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) to the Disability Services Commission. Local government is required to report on its DAIP in the Annual Report.

Since the adoption of the initial DAIP, the Town of Victoria Park has implemented many initiatives and made significant progress towards ensuring that the community is accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and abilities and continues this commitment.

What is access and inclusion?

‘Access’ refers to providing infrastructure such as footpaths, ramps, ACROD parking and accessible toilets. It also includes making information available in formats that meet your needs such as large print, audio and braille.

‘Inclusion’ means that people of all abilities have equal opportunity to participate in Town of Victoria Park services, programs, events, consultation and employment.

Draft DAIP 2017 – 2022

The draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2017 - 2022 has been developed in consultation with the community and stakeholder groups to help inform and strengthen our local community. It will ensure that people of all abilities have equal access to all Town services, information, events, buildings, facilities and employment opportunities.

The draft plan is also available in alternative formats upon request. Further assistance to participate is available by contacting Neighbourhood Enrichment on 9311 8101 to arrange for feedback to be provided over the phone, in person or online.
