UPDATE: At the 20 February Ordinary Council Meeting, the Town brought findings from its public engagement on an unsolicited offer of sale for the property at 47 Planet Street, Carlisle for the purposes of developing a grocery retail site.

Council voted against the Officer's recommendation that the Town enter non-binding discussions with the potential buyer on the proposal.

Background and Proposal

An unsolicited bid was received for the carpark at 47 Planet Street, Carlisle, specifically for the purpose of establishing an IGA supermarket on the site. The Town did not engage in negotiations with the bidder. Instead, Council opted to seek community feedback to understand if the proposal had merit for local residents before considering further steps.

This engagement was not a guarantee of the proposal’s acceptance or negotiation.

The community was asked:

"Would you prefer to see a grocery retail space, specifically an IGA supermarket, developed at 47 Planet Street site, or would you prefer the existing site to remain a car park?"
