Waste management is one of the most significant municipal services provided by the Town of Victoria Park. Including the recovery of resources, waste management is an important element of environmentally sustainable practices managed by the Town.
In 2008 the Town developed a Strategic Waste Minimisation Plan. This was in response to the challenge of the State Government’s commitment to minimise the creation of waste; recover, retreat and reuse waste efficiently; and dispose of waste responsibly.
Whilst significant changes have been implemented by the Town and the Mindarie Regional Council through this Plan, the Town needs a new Strategic Waste Management Plan for the next five years. This will ensure that the Town’s current and future efforts are optimised to achieve the best outcomes for the community, particularly considering the changes that have taken place in the industry during the recent years.
The views of our community have been key to the development of the Strategic Waste Management Plan, including feedback from the Town’s community engagement initiative – ‘Evolve’ – and the subsequent ‘Co-Creating Our Future’ workshop, which focused on waste and recycling within the Town.
What is happening now?
The Strategic Waste Management Plan was endorsed by council at it’s Ordinary Council Meeting in September 2018. Thank you to everyone that was involved.
