Library Services Strategy 2025-2030

Public libraries are vital for lifelong learning and personal growth.

They offer resources, educational tools and community programs that seek to support the development of skills and interests for people from all walks of life, helping individuals and communities thrive.

Continuing to meet this mission requires constant reflection and planning for the future.

In 2021, this plan took the form of the Town's Literacy and Lifelong Learning Strategy 2021-2025 (LLLS), developed to address the evolving roles of libraries and to present opportunities for further community enrichment.

Over the five years covered by the LLLS, the Library has welcomed new facilities such as mobile charging stations, laptop vending machines, accessible toilets and refurbished spaces, it has broadened and enhanced its collections to include memory kits, puzzles and musical instruments, and community programming has been extended to include the likes of Noongar Storytime, French Conversation Circles, sign language and disability art classes and one-on-one digital literacy support, to name just a few.

Patronage of the Library also improved over the five-year period, with a 17% rise in Library visits, a 22% rise in memberships and 5000 additional items loaned.

So what now?

We are keen to know your thoughts on the plan for the next five years! We've called it the Library Services Strategy 2025-2030.

The new plan has been shaped using community feedback gained through surveys, public outreach sessions and focus groups, as well as staff-led research into emerging Library trends.

You can find the draft strategy in the above link, or in the documents section to the right of this page, and a link to a brief survey at the bottom of the page.

Following the survey period, feedback will be considered in the final version of the Strategy, which will then proceed to Council for endorsement.

If you would prefer to complete the brief survey in person, there are hardcopies available at the Library and Administration customer service desks.

The survey closes 5pm, 11 August.
