KENSINGTON - No.21 (Lot 2341) George Street – Kensington Fire Station

Consultation has concluded

The Town is in receipt of an application for development approval on behalf of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services for the construction of a new fire station at 21 George Street, Kensington (see location in the listed plans in the document library). The new fire station is to be built behind the existing fire station, following which the existing fire station will be decommissioned.

The works constitute public works by a public authority, in which case development approval is not required under the Town’s local planning scheme (TPS 1), however approval under the MRS is required from the WAPC. Therefore the Town’s role is to make a recommendation on the application to the WAPC, who will determine the application.

The land being zoned ‘Special Use (Educational Facilities)’ under TPS 1. The use of the land for fire brigade purposes is consistent with the use of adjoining land by other emergency services, but is not consistent with the zoning of the land under the Town’s local planning scheme.

In accordance with Local Planning Policy 37 – “Community Consultation on Planning Proposals”, you are invited to comment on the development.
