Why are we developing a public health plan?
The new Public Health Act 2016 requires all local governments to develop a local Public Health Plan. This engagement is being conducted to help inform the Town’s Public Health Plan.
The information received will inform the Town’s future planning and assist with delivering programs and services that address health and wellbeing issues in the local government area.
What's happening now?
The main public participation of our plan has been completed. Please review the Draft Healthy Vic Park Plan.

SuperMacxover 7 years agoWater Quality and Air Emissions
The control of water quality in Buildings using water based systems is a critical public health requirement and must be included in the public health planning and regulatory compliance similar to other hazardous materials like asbestos, chemical impacts and standards of air quality from high volume traffic corridors and flight paths. Public health often is as much of the unseen as the seen and all aspects must be considered to have a complete plan.
0SuperMacxover 7 years agoPublic Health and Safety
Community Public health and safety of pathways including cycleways, footpaths and general access to Buildings requires more work to remove conflict with cars buses i.e., Albany Highway and along train lines. This should include the ped paths, rail crossings and bridges to access public transport like stations, bus stops and transfer points at schools, colleges, universities and entertainment precincts. Street and public place Lighting in the Town is below standard for acceptable community safety and environmental access especially after sunset.
0Dheathover 7 years agoHealthy living stall at local events (Sunday markets etc)
A stall to promote specific healthy actions in members of the community. I.e Ride you bike to the shops once next week or have a 10 minute chat with your child to check up on their mental health and how everything is going in the school playground.
1SuperMacxover 7 years agoBetter Sustainable Waste Management Services
The waste services from all operational teams in Council and the greater community of the Town of Victoria need to have a committed and targetted approach to reduction of waste to landfill to meet the State Waste Policy requirements of Zero Waste to Landfill. This can save the Town, Ratepayers and Community a significant amount of waste levy contributions to State Government and Environment Levy funds which could be redirected to quality waste and social services for a much improved Public Health outcome. The Town's total operational contribution to Greenhouse gases and Climate Change impacts could be significantly reduced with a better committed and measured focus on Sustainable outcomes required under the Local Government Act, Town Planning and Development Act, Public Health Act, Environmental Protection Act and the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act.
0Whitneyover 7 years agoAlternative locations for Cycle paths
Cycle paths definitely need to be considered through out the Town not just on the foreshore. But I disagree that they should replace the parking spaces on Albany highway. Consider putting cycle paths on secondary roads not the major traffic roads. This would be easier, we could maintain the parking spaces (as they are limited already), and would significantly reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

3Maxineover 7 years agoAn entry statement artwork and/or piazza area for musicians
Victoria Park is wonderful but the main entry to our fab community is car years, car yards, car yards. We need a large entry statement that epitomises who we are. Fremantle has the container ship arch but we have nothing. I feel this type of thing creates a sense of place. In addition I would love to see a small piazza (not another park) but a space for eating, talking, reading or musicians to play their instruments.

Prevent speeding by install bump in streets (e.g. Hubert St, Carnarvon St) used as shortcuts of the Shepperton Rd and Albany Hwy.
0caring16over 7 years agoSharing home grown produce
For those who have green thumbs and grow their own fruit or veg - wouldn't it be great to share? If you have more than you need why not share or exchange your excess produce with others? e.g. if you have too many lemons, and they are falling off the tree and going to waste, wouldn't it be great to share a few with others and maybe share a favourite recipe as well. Or trade a few lemons for a few tomatoes? Good for the community, encourages healthy eating and cooking and reduces waste.
